Saints Receive Compensatory Pick: Fourth-to-last pick in draft awarded to Saints

The Saints were awarded the 252nd overall pick under the league's compensatory choice system. Teams receive extra picked, from the third to the seventh rounds, thanks for "a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula."

The 44th pick in the seventh round adds a sixth pick to the Saints' second day. The Packers owe the Saints their sixth round pick, three picks after the Saints in that round, as compensation in the Mike McKenzie trade in 2004.

The Saints only have two picks currently in the first day, because they traded their 2006 third round pick to the Texans in order to move up and select T Jammal Brown in last April's first round. The Saints do own the second pick in the all other rounds, including the first and second rounds. The Saints have two picks in the top 34 selections.
