- We're still waiting on a decision from the NFL on the suspensions of starting DE's Charles Grant and Will Smith.
- The Eagles have given up on starting tackle Shawn Andrews, who missed the entire preseason and regular season opener with a back injury. They've placed him on injured reserve. He's been replaced by OT Winston Justice at right tackle. The Eagles might also be considering bringing veteran OT Jon Runyan out of retirement.
The Eagles also signed free agent QB Jeff Garcia, who played for them well in 2006, including a playoff loss against the Saints. Third year pro Kevin Kolb is expected to start but with starter Donovan McNabb ailing with a fractured rib, backup Michael Vick still suspended and training camp backup QB AJ Feeley signing in Carolina, the Eagles were suddenly razor thin at the position.
Garcia is 4-5 all-time against the Saints but three of those losses were with the 49ers in the Saints' Haslett era.
- As for the Saints, the Times-Picayune is reporting that WR/KR Courtney Roby could be heading back to the Saints, based on his facebook status, to resume the kickoff return duties. WR Robert Meachem returned kickoffs for the Saints on Sunday against Detroit, and despite ripping off two good returns back the 40 yard line, his other returns were poor, including one in which he slipped down untouched.
Roby could be arriving in New Orleans as part of another transaction, or he could be one of two players the Saints are adding with the suspensions of Grant and Smith activating.
We should know within hours.
