Sprained MCL's running rampant

ESPN has finally broken the Saints' silence and uncovered the diagnosis on Saints DT Sedrick Ellis: sprained MCL. Four to six weeks, no surgery required.

That's right, the same collateral ligament that struck Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell this year. The same injury that hit Reggie Bush last December and Mike Karney last November.

As reported earlier, Ellis will be replaced by Anthony Hargrove and Kendrick Clancy.

Its still possible the Saints will make a move to promote practice squad player and former draft pick DT DeMario Pressley to the active roster.

Its a common injury and usually requires 2-6 weeks to return from, depending on the severity. Chiefs QB Matt Cassell, Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno, Chargers WR Vincent Jackson, Lions LB Rey Maualuga, Patriots LB Jerod Mayo and Steelers S Troy Polamalu have all suffered similar injuries of varying degrees this season and have already returned to play.
