Pre-Game Day Notes

  • The day before the game, the Saints declared DE Bobby McCray (back), RB Pierre Thomas (ribs), CB Malcolm Jenkins (hamstring), WR Lance Moore (ankle) as probable.

The Cardinals listed WR Anquan Boldin as questionable but he's not expected to play, according to the latest smokescreen coming out of Arizona.

As previous noted, the Saints lost DT Rodney Leisle, recently added to the team for depth, to a knee injury during practice. He was cut to make room for RB Deuce McAllister, who is not expected to be among the 45 active players on Saturday.

  • MLB Jonathan Vilma's family is among millions affected by the major earthquake in Haiti, a country with more than enough problems already. Vilma is one of many pro athletes who had trouble contacting family in the aftermath, but he did contact them and all are okay. However, another Saints linebacker Stanley Arnoux's family in Haiti have not yet been reached.

Vilma and San Diego Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire will appear in a league-sponsored Public Service Announcement this weekend. It was filmed this week.

Former LSU defensive lineman and current 49ers player Ricky Jean-Francois has also not yet heard of the safety of all his family members in Haiti.

The staff of NOPF extends our sympathy to those affected and encourages all readers to donate to CARE, who already has hundreds of feet on the ground, or another reputable charity.

  • Former Saints strike-era player and Louisiana-Lafayette LB Joe DeForest is currently a Oklahoma State assistant and is a candidate for the head coaching position at Louisiana Tech.

  • Former Saints head coach Jim Haslett has been hired by the Washington Redskins as their new defensive coordinator. Former Saints special teams coach Bobby April, a Louisiana native and Nicholls State grad, was fired by Buffalo and hired by Philadelphia.
