The Saints have re-signed veteran RB Ladell Betts and waived RB DeShawn Wynn.
Speculation abounds that this signing could mean that the Saints will enjoy the return of RB Chris Ivory sooner than later.
But, the Saints probably agree that though Wynn is a better special teams player, Betts is more capable to contribute on offense.
There's still a possibility that Wynn is re-signed before the game, as the Saints regularly make multiple mid-week transactions, but it likely comes down to the fact that the Saints cannot afford to carry five runningbacks on the roster. With Bush not headed to IR but inactive in Week 3, likely joined by Ivory, the Saints would need to drop a player at another position to keep both Wynn and Betts.
The Saints may see fit in the wake of Reggie Bush's injury to go with a platoon of Pierre Thomas, Ladell Betts and Heath Evans at runningback, with Evans and TE David Thomas sharing time at fullback.
Saints DT DeMario Pressley wrote Tuesday night, "My boy @reggie_bush will be back in no time I know it.."
Notes: Two time Saints training camper WR Rod Harper has been signed to the practice squad of the Eagles... S Erik Coleman (knee) did not practice for the Falcons on Wednesday. WR Michael Jenkins (shoulder) and RB Michael Turner (groin) were limited but are expected to play...
