The Saints have placed veteran RB Ladell Betts on injured reserve because of the lack of recovery from a neck injury.
Betts suffered a neck injury and concussion against the Seahawks on November 21, 2008.
Five runningbacks, including Betts, have started a game for the Saints this season, due to injury. Betts started one game, a disastrous performance against the Cardinals in week five.
Betts was overall a solid addition to the Saints, but in Arizona he let a pass glance off his fingertips for an interception near his own goal line and lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
A long time Redskin who joined the Saints in the offseason, Betts finished the season with 45 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns, plus 23 catches for 141 yards. That fumble against Arizona was his only fumble of the season, and was his first since November 23, 2008.
The other 2010 starters so far at runningback for the Saints: Reggie Bush (4), Chris Ivory (4), Julius Jones (2) and Pierre Thomas (1).
Replacing him on the 53-man roster is veteran linebacker Kawika Mitchell.
