When the Saints' preseason schedule was set, many assumed that the week of August 20 would be spent in Houston in the team's unofficial annual rite of joint team practices followed by an exhibition game.
One of the lockout's first, tangible, football-related cancellations is those practices, which were set to be held at the Texans' training facility. The two teams have held joint practices before their preseason game since 2008.
The joint practices between the two teams had a history of practice scuffles. In 2009, Saints TE Jeremy Shockey and Houston LB DeMeco Ryans sparked a brawl, and the Saints' defense ignored a request to not tackle to the ground.
