Saints to be Thinner Than Usual at First Practice of 2011 Camp

The Saints will open training camp on Thursday, with players reporting in a flurry of contract signings.

The first practice of training camp is 8:50am on Friday at the Saints training facility in Metairie.

The Saints exited the lockout with only 47 players under contract.  The training camp roster limit is 90.  With 21 undrafted rookies signed, and Lance Moore and Leigh Torrence agreed to terms, the Saints are at 70 players, though contracts for free agents cannot be officially signed until 5pm central time on Friday, July 29.

The first practice of training camp on Friday therefore will be a sparsely-populated one, and will not feature any free agent additions, and unsigned Saint free agents, Moore or Torrence.

The last practice of camp is August 18, before the Saints break to head to Houston for the second preseason game.

All practices are open to the public, with gates to the fields and stands opening 45 minutes beforehand.  The complete practice schedule is here.

The new NFL league year technically does not begin until August 4.
