Veteran Devery Henderson, part of a three-man starting group at wide receiver, suffered a concussion last week against Washington and is not expected to play in Carolina on Sunday.
With Adrian Arrington also out, second-year speedster Joe Morgan and veteran special teamer Courtney Roby step into the role together as the third wide receiver in the Saints' pass-oriented offense, no minor task.
Morgan appeared in the season opener last week but did not fare well, not connecting on two passes from Drew Brees in the fourth quarter.
Newly re-signed veteran Greg Camarillo, a late training camp addition who was re-signed this week, is also on the roster at wide receiver.
Arrington was placed on injured reserve this week but could return to the team at some point later this season thanks to a new NFL rule that allows one player per team per year to return from injured reserve - usually a season-ending list. Arrington has been fighting a knee injury throughout preseason, and missed all five exhibition games after minor meniscus surgery.
The Saints also will be without rotation DE Turk McBride and nickel defensive back Johnny Patrick. Rookie Corey White has been playing in place of Patrick in the secondary.
The Saints plucked T Bryce Harris off the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons to replace rookie T Marcel Jones, lost to injured reserve last week.
Starters CB Jabari Greer (groin) and SLB Scott Shanle (leg) are questionable for Week 2.
