Casillas To Tampa Bay

Saints unrestricted free agent linebacker Jonathan Casillas is the third Saint to sign a free agent contract with another team.  Casillas agreed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Bucs after being allowed to hit the open market by the Saints, who apparently didn't have a place for him in the 3-4.

Speedy, undersized but productive Casillas had worked his way into Gregg Williams' starting lineup at weakside linebacker in 2010 before a Lisfranc injury in the preseason finale ended his year.

An overachieving undrafted gem out of Wisconsin found by the Saints in 2009, rookie Casillas started the final two regular season games of the Saints' 2009 Super Bowl run.  The injury derailed his promising 2010 season, and in 2011 was only rotational and couldn't claim full time a starting job.

A right knee injury derailed a hot streak for Casillas in November 2011, when he collected 18 solo tackles and nine assists in four wins for the Saints before the injury.  Casillas continued to suffer nagging neck and knee injuries into 2012.
