Minicamp Wraps Up; Butler Lost

Free agent addition OLB Victor Butler has been lost for the 2013 season after suffering a torn ACL during the Saints' mandatory offseason minicamp.

Butler had a knee-to-knee collission with RB Mark Ingram in practice on Tuesday.  MRI confirmed the diagnosis the next day.

A choice of new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, Victor signed a two year contract in March, following Ryan from Dallas.  He was slated to challenge for a starting job in the Saints 3-4 at rush outside linebacker.

Butler's absence leaves Junior Galette, Martez Wilson and Will Smith as notable options at outside linebacker, all three of them making the transition from 4-3 defensive end. Butler may have had a leg up on the competition with his experience in Ryan's 3-4.
